Buckets Filter

Buckets Filter Overview

If your account contains many buckets, use Buckets Filter to find the ones you need by name, creation date, or region. You can combine conditions, hide matching buckets, and switch between saved filters from the toolbar.

The filter controls the bucket list in the left-hand panel of CS Browser. For example, you can display production buckets, buckets created during a particular period, or buckets in a selected Amazon S3 region.

To filter the files inside a bucket or folder, use the file list filter.

How to apply a bucket filter

  1. Select your account and click Filter above the bucket list.

Filter button on the bucket toolbar
Click Filter on the bucket toolbar.

The Bucket Filter dialog will open:

Bucket Filter dialog with a name condition matching the prod-* pattern
The Bucket Filter dialog with a sample prod-* name condition.

Each condition contains three fields, from top to bottom:

    • Criterion - choose Name, Creation date, or Region.
    • Operation - choose how to compare the bucket property, such as matches pattern or equals.
    • Value - enter text, select a date or date range, or choose a region.

The hints below the fields explain the selected criterion and operation.

  2. For a simple name filter, select Name, matches pattern, and enter prod-*.

The asterisk matches any number of characters, so this example matches prod-archive, prod-backups, and prod-website.

  3. Click Set filter. The bucket list will show only matching buckets:

Filtered bucket list showing prod-archive, prod-backups, and prod-website
The Filter button stays checked while a filter is active.

Hover over Filter to see how many buckets are shown out of the total. Click the button again to edit the filter. If no buckets match, change the conditions or reset the filter.

Filter conditions

Filter buckets by name

Click Filter, choose Name in the first field, and open the operation list:

Name filter operation list with pattern, equals, contains, and other text comparisons
Choose how to compare the text with bucket names.
  • matches pattern - matches the entire name using * for zero or more characters and ? for one character. Examples: prod-*, *backup*, and logs-202?.
  • equals - matches the entire name, for example prod-backups.
  • contains - matches text anywhere in the name, for example backup.
  • does not contain - matches names without the specified text.
  • starts with - matches the beginning of the name, for example prod-.
  • ends with - matches the end of the name, for example -assets.

Enter the text or pattern in the value field and click Set filter. All name comparisons ignore letter case. Wildcards apply only to matches pattern; other operations compare literal text.

Enter one pattern per condition. To match several patterns, add a condition for each and use Match any conditions.

Filter buckets by creation date

  1. Click Filter and select Creation date in the criterion field. Choose between to specify a date range:

Creation date condition between January 1 and September 30, 2026
Select the first and last creation dates to include.

The operation determines which date fields are shown:

    • on - buckets created on the selected date.
    • on or before - buckets created on or before the selected date.
    • on or after - buckets created on or after the selected date.
    • between - buckets created within the range; both selected dates are included.

Dates are compared in UTC, without the time of day. In the example, the first field is January 1, 2026, and the second is September 30, 2026.

  2. Select the date or date range and click Set filter.

Buckets without a creation date do not match date conditions. This includes external buckets. They can still match another condition when you use Match any conditions.

Filter buckets by region

  1. Click Filter, select Region, and choose equals. Open the region list:

Region filter with the region list open and US East (N. Virginia) selected
Choose a region by its name and code, such as US East (N. Virginia), us-east-1.
    • equals - shows buckets in the selected region.
    • does not equal - shows buckets whose reported region differs from the selected one.
    • Region - choose the desired region from the list. The available regions depend on the account and the bucket information returned by the storage.
  2. Select US East (N. Virginia) (us-east-1), for example, and click Set filter to show buckets in that region.

Unknown means that no region was returned for a bucket. Choose Region, equals, Unknown to find those buckets. does not equal with a named region also matches buckets with an unknown region. To show only buckets with a reported region, use does not equal with Unknown.

Combine several conditions

  1. Configure the first condition, then click Add condition at the bottom of the dialog. A second condition and the Match list will appear.

For example, keep Name, matches pattern, prod-*, and add a Creation date, between condition:

Match all conditions combining prod-* with a creation date range
Match all requires both the name pattern and the creation date range.

Match all conditions shows a bucket only when every condition matches. This example shows production buckets created between January 1 and September 30, 2026. You can also add a Region condition to narrow the list further.

  2. Choose any when a match for at least one condition is enough. For example, use two name patterns to show production or staging buckets:

Match any conditions with prod-* and staging-* name patterns
Match any shows buckets whose names match prod-* or staging-*.

Use Remove condition beside a condition to remove it. When your conditions are ready, click Set filter.

Exclude matching buckets

  1. Click Filter and configure the buckets you want to hide. For example, choose Name, starts with, and enter test-.

  2. Check Exclude at the bottom of the dialog:

Exclude checked for a name condition starting with test-
Exclude hides matching test buckets and leaves other buckets visible.

Exclude reverses the result of the whole filter. If you combine conditions, the all or any selection is evaluated first.

  3. Click Set filter to apply the exclusion.

Reuse and reset filters

Apply saved filters in two clicks

Filters you apply with Set filter are saved automatically in the recent-filter history. You can switch between them directly from the bucket toolbar in two clicks:

  1. Click the arrow next to Filter to open the menu:

Filter toolbar menu with saved name, region, and exclusion filters
The toolbar menu gives quick access to your most recently used filters.
  2. Click the filter you want to apply, such as Region equals us-east-1. The bucket list updates immediately, without opening the dialog.

The menu shows up to seven recent filters. A check mark identifies the current filter. Choose Configure... to open the dialog and change its conditions.

Inside the dialog, Recent filters loads a saved filter for review or editing; click Set filter to apply it. Recent filters are shared between accounts and remain available after restarting CS Browser. The active filter is kept separately for each account during the current session and is not restored on restart.

Reset the filter

  1. Click the arrow next to Filter on the bucket toolbar.

  2. Choose Reset filter:

Reset filter command in the bucket toolbar menu
Reset filter shows all buckets for the current account again.

You can also click Clear filter in the Bucket Filter dialog. The Filter button becomes unchecked, and your saved filters remain available for reuse.
