Filter the File List

Overview

Use Display Filter to show only the files you need in the current list. Filter by name, full path, last modification date and time, storage class, or size. Combine conditions, exclude unwanted files, and reuse recent filters.

Filtering uses information already loaded in CS Browser and does not make additional requests. It changes which entries are visible; it does not delete files or search file contents. With bucket pagination, the filter applies to entries loaded so far, not to pages that have not been loaded.

In normal browsing, the filter applies to the current folder. To list files across subfolders, use Flat Browsing Mode at the bucket root, then apply a display filter. To filter one download operation, including its selected subfolders, use Download with Filters. In scripts, use CLI list filters to filter the current folder by the same file criteria.

Apply a display filter

1. Open a bucket or folder and click the funnel button on the address bar.

   

2. Choose a criterion, an operation, and a value. For example, select Name, matches pattern, and enter *.jpg to display JPEG files. The hints below the fields explain the selected criterion and operation.

   

3. Click Set filter. The list shows matching entries:

   

   Click the funnel button again to review or change the filter.

Filter conditions

Name and full path

Name compares only the last part of the object key. For reports/2026/sales.csv, it compares sales.csv, including in Flat Browsing Mode. Full path compares the entire key from the bucket root, without a bucket name or leading slash.

• matches pattern and does not match pattern compare the whole value using * for zero or more characters and ? for one character.
• equals and does not equal compare the complete value with literal text.
• contains and does not contain check for literal text anywhere in the value.
• starts with and ends with compare the beginning or end with literal text.

Text comparisons ignore letter case unless you check Match case for that condition. Wildcards apply only to the two pattern operations. Enter one value per condition; for several patterns, add conditions and choose Match any conditions.

Last modified

Choose Last modified to compare a date and time to the second. Use at, on or before, on or after, or between. Both range fields appear on one row. Keep Use local time checked to enter times as shown in the file list, or clear it to enter UTC. Each boundary includes the entire selected second.

Date and time conditions use fixed cutoffs. To find files older than ten days, enter the required cutoff date and time; it does not advance automatically. Files without a reported modification date do not match Last modified conditions.

Storage class

Choose Storage class, equals or does not equal, then a class. The list includes built-in classes, the account's configured custom classes, and classes reported in the loaded file list.

Size

Choose Size, then equals, at least, at most, or between. Enter the value or range in bytes, KiB, MiB, or GiB. Limits are inclusive; 1 KiB is 1,024 bytes, and 1 MiB is 1,048,576 bytes.

Combine conditions and exclude matches

Click Add condition to add a criterion. With two or more conditions, choose all or any in the Match list. Use Remove condition beside a condition to remove it.

Match all conditions requires every condition to match. For example, combine a name pattern with a modification date range:

Match any conditions requires at least one condition to match. Add a name condition for each alternative, such as CSV or JSON:

To hide a particular name pattern, choose does not match pattern. For example, 2024-09*.logs hides matching September log files while keeping other files visible:

Alternatively, check Exclude to hide entries matching the entire combined filter. With several conditions, Exclude reverses the final all/any result. To hide files matching either of two unwanted patterns, use two matches pattern conditions, Match any conditions, and Exclude.

Filter folder names

Folders remain visible by default so you can navigate while filtering files. Check Filter folder names in the dialog toolbar to apply text conditions to folders too. Name compares the folder's name, while Full path includes its path from the bucket root.

This option is available only when every condition compares text. If you add a Last modified, Storage class, or Size condition, the option becomes unavailable and folders remain visible. The parent-folder entry .. always remains available.

Recent filters and earlier versions

Click Recent in the dialog and select a filter to load its conditions. Review them and click Set filter. Applied filters remain available after restarting CS Browser. Display, download, and bucket filters each have their own history.

The Edit command inside Recent opens the history file in your text editor. Clear inside that menu clears the history without removing the active display filter. To show all entries, use Clear on the dialog toolbar.

Filters saved by earlier versions are preserved, including lists of comma-separated patterns. They may show a Displayed name condition, which compares the text shown in the file list: a name in normal browsing, or a full object key in Flat Browsing Mode. This criterion preserves the earlier behavior and is not offered for new conditions. Choose Name or Full path when editing it if you want the same interpretation in both modes.

Remove the filter

1. Click the funnel button on the address bar.

2. Click Clear in the Display Filter toolbar.

   

All loaded entries become visible and the funnel button becomes unchecked. Recent filters remain available. Click Cancel instead to close the dialog without changing the current filter.
